Nasc awaits announcement from Minister for Justice on ‘family reunification scheme’

Nasc is eagerly awaiting an announcement from the Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan outlining details of a new ‘family reunification scheme’, which he is reportedly bringing to Cabinet today.

This morning on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, it was announced that the Minister would be introducing a new ‘family reunification programme’, which would allow 530 people in ‘conflict zones’ to be reunited with family members here in Ireland over the next two years.

Nasc’s Safe Passage campaign has called for the introduction of a family linked humanitarian admission scheme, which would allow people in Ireland to apply to bring family members in conflict zones to safety here in Ireland.

“Although we do not yet know the details of the Government’s proposed programme, we have long called for a scheme of this nature and we – and many of the families we work with – would welcome the opportunity to reunite families,” states Nasc CEO Fiona Finn.

Nasc will make a more detailed statement when the Minister has released the details of the proposed programme.

Nasc’s Safe Passage Campaign was launched on World Refugee Day, 20 June 2016, to call for the introduction of a humanitarian admission programme, which would allow people in Ireland to apply to bring family members currently in conflict zones to safety here in Ireland.
