One for Ireland Campaign to Tackle #YouthHomelessness

One for Ireland Campaign to Tackle #YouthHomelessness

We are delighted to be one of the chosen charities for the fund this year alongside Barnardos, Focus Ireland, Merchants Quay Ireland, Novas, Sonas Domestic Violence Charity, and the Galway Simon Community.

This campaign will enable us to offer key support to young people transitioning out of Direct Provision reducing the risk of .

Our Youth Advocacy Project (YAP) centres on supporting young refugees transitioning out of the asylum process by matching them with advocates who will be a person of support as they move onto independent living. Due to the current increased risk of homelessness this phase of the YAP, supported by the One For Ireland campaign, will focus on training advocates to support young people in securing rental accommodation, understanding HAP and social welfare payments, and the different supports they will need as they move on from state run reception centres. In the experience of the IRC, such support is crucial and greatly reduces the risk of homelessness.

Why Youth Homelessness?

One for Ireland recognises homelessness as one of the most pressing social issues in Ireland today. We want to make a difference by distributing the funds raised through the campaign to organisations (both national and local) which can make a real and positive impact in reducing the number of homeless young people in Ireland, and addressing the issues that face them. One for Ireland aims to support children and young people between the ages of 0-24 years who are at risk of homelessness or who have been impacted by homelessness.
